Frequently Asked Questions
Can you make gummies with sea moss?
Yes! You can make homemade sea moss gummies with fruit juice, sea moss powder, and a setting agent like agar agar. Our recipe uses sea moss powder. Sea moss gel adds extra liquid, so it shouldn’t be substituted one-for-one without adjusting the recipe.
How do you make sea moss gummies without gelatin?
You can make vegan sea moss gummies using agar agar instead of animal-based gelatin. Agar agar is a plant-based setting agent derived from red algae. It helps the fruit juice mixture firm up into gummies without using gelatin.
How much agar agar do you need for sea moss gummies?
For our small-batch recipe, we use 1½ teaspoons of agar agar powder for every 1 cup of 100% fruit juice. The final texture can vary depending on the brand of agar agar and the other ingredients used.
Can I use sea moss powder instead of sea moss gel?
Absolutely! Our homemade sea moss gummies recipe uses 1 teaspoon of Full Spectrum sea moss powder. If you prefer sea moss gel, you can experiment with it, but you may need to adjust the liquid and agar agar amounts to achieve the right consistency.
How long do homemade sea moss gummies last?
Keep homemade sea moss gummies refrigerated in an airtight container. We haven’t established a tested shelf life for this recipe, so make small batches for prompt enjoyment rather than long-term storage.
Why aren't my sea moss gummies firming up?
If your gummies aren't setting properly, the agar agar may not have fully dissolved or reached the temperature needed to activate its gelling properties. Make sure to bring the agar mixture to a boil according to the manufacturer's instructions before pouring it into your molds. Too much liquid can also prevent the gummies from setting firmly.
