While both Irish sea moss and St. Lucia sea moss are types of seaweed, they differ in where they grow and how they look:
- Irish Sea Moss (Chondrus crispus): Grows in cold Atlantic waters near Ireland and Canada. It’s darker and has flat, fan-like branches.
- St. Lucia Sea Moss (Eucheuma or Gracilaria): Found in the warm Caribbean waters of St. Lucia, it’s thicker, noodle-like, and comes in gold, purple, green, and full-spectrum varieties.
Both seamoss, but their origins and appearances set them apart.

- Soak: Place the cleaned sea moss in a bowl and cover it with spring or filtered water. Let it soak for 12–24 hours until it expands and softens.
- Blend: Drain the soaked sea moss and blend it with fresh water until you achieve a smooth, gel-like consistency.
- Store: Transfer the gel into a clean, airtight container and refrigerate. It will thicken further as it chills.

When stored properly in the refrigerator, sea moss gel lasts about 2–4 weeks. To maintain freshness, keep it in the back of the refrigerator where the temperature is more consistent, rather than in the front or side door. Always use a clean spoon to scoop out your servings.
Sea moss gel can last up to 6 months when frozen. For convenience, freeze it in ice cube trays so you can pop out individual servings as needed. This way, you only thaw what you need without affecting the rest of the batch.

The best type of sea moss to use in soaps is gold sea moss. This variety is the most commonly used for skincare products, including soaps, due to its gentle and mild nature. While other types like St Lucia Purple Sea Moss and St lucia green sea moss are also great, gold sea moss is preferred for soap-making because of its smooth texture and versatility. It helps create a nourishing, moisturizing lather that’s perfect for cleansing without being too harsh.
Additionally, St lucia full spectrum sea moss raw can also be used for soaps if you want to blend the multiple types of sea moss. However, gold sea moss remains the top choice for most soap makers.

All sales final, no returns, no exchanges. However, we will review situations case by case. This also includes providing an incorrect shipping address and lost mail, you would have to contact the shipping carrier.
